Church Services

Standard

Hi everyone, It feels wonderful being back home. The church is doing good. We consistently are filling up all the chairs with new people visiting. ImageImage

We are very happy to have Dad and Mom Schreckhise down with us. Dad is teaching on Thursday nights on the armor of the spirit. The people are enjoying it. He is using flannel graph and they really like the visual. I missed the children terribly!

Jeraldo praying, seeking for the Holy Ghost for the first time. It was beautiful. I had tears streaming down my face watching him pray.

Sister Eugina and her family invited us over to eat mondongo, which just happens to be my favorite soup ever. It was Seths first time to ever eat cow stomach. I was craving the soup and wanting it for about a week and then on Sunday they invited us over for dinner on Monday night. It was so yummy!

YUM I got seconds after a huge bowl. Image

I believe they call this tripe in America. Whatever it is – it’s great! I had it for lunch yesterday and I’m going to enjoy it again today for lunch!

Sister Eugina, the best cook in Honduras!

Dad and Mom Schreckhise and Seth enjoying their soup.

Seth said the flavor and the banana’s and vegetables in it was amazing but when he ate the meat it felt like he was eating someone’s tongue. I thought that was so funny.

Seth’s impression of Comayagua

Standard
We went to Comayagua today. Its a very large city that you have to go way down out of the mountain where we are to get to it. The drive was very scenic with trees and shrub covered mountains. That some people are just crazy enough to farm on. Lots of corn crops and banana trees. The city itself was very large (you could see it coming down the side of the mountains. But as you started getting into town you can see people are more expressively poor. Homes, multiple people’s homes were little one room shacks with cardboard and tin for walls if you have enough money. Its very sad to us but its just life to them.

Note from Lori: Seth really thought the coke bottle as a red flag was great. I keep seeing things through new eyes again with him being here. We are really enjoying him down. He’s a very good worker with a GREAT attitude. He makes everyone around him smile and laugh.

Seth’s first impression of Honduras

Standard

My first impressions of Honduras. Well when i stepped  the plane the humidity hit like a brick wall. The people though speaking in a formal language seemed very nice. There all pretty chill (laid back). My ride from the airport in San Pedro Sula to Siguatepeque was all in dark because of the time of my arrival from the states. But the next morning the view was beautiful from my bedroom window. Rolling green mountains with Pine trees covering them are everywhere. The town is very different from what you would get in America. Instead of organized traffic and one or two people walking there are tons of traffic and drivers don’t really know boundaries, three inches seems like enough room to pass someone .  There are mostly Toyota little pickups, little four doors and  a lot of Camrys. There are many little booths and shops all over the city. The economy seems to be booming here. The church is very nice and we are working on making the frames for the home of Bro. Marc and Sis Lori Schreckhise*, and hopefully we will be laying block by this time next week.

The church services always start with reading the Word and then prayer. A man just started coming back to church here, He said that none of the others churches had what this church had, (God). I am happy to be here and am glad the Lord is moving here in Siguatepeque!

We Really are going Home

Standard

Well last night about midnight we went to bed thinking we sat the alarm for 3 in the morning so we could leave the house by 4 am. I woke up at 6:53. My heart was in my shoes, I hollered at Marc, “We missed our flight”… well we didn’t technically miss it yet but by the time we got to the airport, checked the car in, checked our bags, passed through TSA, and got to the boarding area, we would have missed it. I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry. So I laughed and we laughed hard. It was the first time in either of or lives we’ve ever missed an appointment much less a flight. Yup, we did it. So after we finished laughing, I wanted to cry. All I wanted to do was go home and hold my Benjamin. So Marc called United Airlines and they changed our flight to the evening flight FOR FREE. It was God. I claim a miracle. It should have cost us another $700.00 or so but I believe God preformed for us a miracle. Well, we are now at the airport 4 hours early :)* I’m not missing this flight if I can help it. And I’m counting down the hours again until I’m home. So morale of the story, when you set your alarm, make sure you hit the save button especially if you are using an iPhone. Well, I’m going to believe that All things, even missing our flight, work together for the good because we are in love with Jesus and we are called according to His purpose. My dear friend to me that at 4 this morning, she was awake and couldn’t sleep. She prayed for me when I was supposed to be leaving for the airport. So perhaps God was keeping us from something. I don’t know but I’m thankful for a praying family and praying friends.

Love you all and will write more in Honduras!

Going Home

Standard

Friday we’re going back home. I am so excited. I miss Benjamin so much. Now, don’t laugh at me all you people who have children and don’t treasure your pet. He’s the protected species in the M&L family.

Marc is building a crate for all our things we’re taking back. I’m so excited. I wanted an old farm house sink for the kitchen. I wanted one really bad. My father in law and Marc went and looked at Lowes, yup, that’s all they did was look too. They were about $2500.00. So I did what all women that want a farm house sink do, I prayed and told God all about it. Not a long prayer, just a you know I really want that kind of a prayer. Well, Marc asked me if I wanted to go garage sailing (that’s got to be a southern word because if you take sale and add ing, it just doesn’t go :)) Well, every place we went to I asked, do you have or know of someone that has an old cast iron apron front farmhouse sink for sale. No, no, no… then Marc said lets go to one more and we’ll go home. Okay that’s good. The last one, we pull up and Marc said, Look Lori, there’s your sink for sale. It still had the original faucet on it. And it was only $50.00. In my excitement, I ran up and said, “You know that sink” the lady looks at me and says, “yes” I said in my breathlessness hurriedness  “well, I want it and here’s the money!” I didn’t even realize that Marc was on his way up there to get it for a better price. Oh well, I was so excited and thankful. I called everyone I could think about to tell them. THEN we went to a couples house that my in laws are close to and in their yard was a matching bathroom sink – faucets still there. Those precious people gave it to me. I wanted to kiss them. So my dearest husband is crating up all 250+lbs of cast iron for my future bathroom and kitchen. Thank you Jesus and Thank you Marc.

Marc is taking back a few tools he needs to help with finishing the church construction and it’ll help with our house too. And then we have babies being born in the church in the next few months. My Sister in law is sending me back with some little boy clothing. I found some girls clothes and other baby things to take back.

I don’t have any pictures of the sinks yet but I do have some pictures of my Daddy and Marc. My Daddy took Marc fishing and He got a fish!

And when we were in Tulsa, we were able to meet Brother and Sister Baglin. We saw their phenomenal Sunday School office. It was great inspiration. They gave me two puppets. I know the children are going to love them. Isn’t this room an awesome source of WOW

Then we were able to go see Joseph with Holly and Patrick. I cried during the play. It was great. And it was even greater being able to be with our awesome friends who had come down to the conference too.

It so fun to go see them when we’re in that part of the country!! She is Mrs Hospitality at its best! I love you Holly!

And me and my dearest husband.

Have a great week my people. I’ll write again when I get home and the internet gets hooked back up again. It may be a week or two but I’ll be back and you’ll get to see Honduras and all the new faces with me! I’m really looking forward to going home. I’ve been really wanting some of Sister Eugina’s menudo soup. Or her fish soup but oh for a taste of that menudo…

Oh there’s really no place like home. No matter where home may be or what home may look like, there’s still no place like home.

To my Sarah

Standard

Today my dearest Sarah turns 13. I wish with all my heart that I could be there celebrating with you this wonderful day. You are a miracle sent from God and I’m so thankful He answered and gave our family you. If I were there I’d sing with the family to you but I’m not, so you get a video clip of my birthday wishes. I love you more than words could express. Happy Birthday Sarah!
